Bill Richardson, who has served as Governor of New Mexico, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Secretary of Energy, will receive the 2015 Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award.
Karl Zobrist, President of The Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation, said: "The work of Governor Richardson to pursue peaceful solutions and better relations among all nations of the world, as well as to implement sustainable energy policies has been extraordinary."
Governor Richardson will receive the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award on Monday, May 11, 2015 as part of the Truman Foundation's annual luncheon in the Imperial Ballroom at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. The award will mark the 131st birthday of President Truman.
The Truman Good Neighbor Award has been given annually since 1973 on the anniversary of the birth of President Truman. Previous honorees include Presidents Bill Clinton and Gerald R. Ford, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, and news anchor Walter Cronkite.
Each year the Foundation awards scholarships for international studies, recognizes the service of a U.S. Armed Forces veteran with the Philip Pistilli Silver Veterans Medal, and invites international students studying at local universities to be guests at the luncheon, recognizing President Truman's keen interest in education as a means to promote better relations among all nations.
